Health IT Security

The healthcare sector has seen more growth in the digitization of private health data in the last decade than perhaps any other industry. As a result, they have also seen more significant breaches of this private data than ever before. In 2015 according to Forbes, the healthcare sector saw a staggering 112 million records compromised. The breakdown, according to the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) totaled 253 breaches total for 2015, affecting around 500 individuals and compromising 112 million records.

Many of the breaches were healthcare insurance-based, and resided in the top insurance providers in the country. 29% of all of the breaches reported for 2015 were a direct result of theft of a data bearing device, which is why Resource 1 works so hard to help companies protect their devices from the moment of decommission to the destruction. There are many integral steps that necessarily must be taken in order to ensure a device is protected at all times and from all threats, but in the healthcare field it is just as important that providers have quick access to the information. This presents a potential problem for IT Executives and companies like Resource 1 as they are confronted with the dual goals of providing life-saving access at the time it is needed, while simultaneously protecting the data throughout it's life cycle. It is in this spirit that Resource 1 has compiled a complimentary library of articles, white papers, and case studies focused on protected Private Patient Information (PPI), and overcoming the challenges associated with doing so.

Passed in 1996, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has leveraged massive fines and penalties to companies that have suffered data breaches. Yet, there is always work to be done to protect sensitive health information, and Resource 1 believes that this work is vital to the flourishing of individuals and providers.

When individuals feel comfortable and trust their providers, their health outcomes can improve. At Resource 1 we take a holistic stance on the catalysts of positive healthcare in the United States, and believe that every complicated detail of a patient's experience when going through treatment of any kind contributes to their outcome.

As healthcare providers become more progressive, and the delivery of healthcare begins to lean more on technological advances for successful delivery, we at Resource 1 will continue to work around the clock to protect what's most important.
